Nice Little Family - Clark’s Grebes

“Grebes and loons are devoted parents, carrying the young birds on their backs until they are ready to swim, dive and forage on their own. This family of Clark's Grebes was still together in September at Utah's Bear River Refuge working the canals. The older chick was feeling his independence and diving on its own while the adult would sink into the water to let the younger chick get the sensation of swimming on its own but would always rise from directly under the youngster to keep it safe.”
